Whaler Made Bone and Ebonized Wood Round Lidded Box

Description

Whaler made antique bone and ebonized wood round box, circa 1850. With pierced bone medallion and delicately carved bone spiral decorative supports on the base. Geometric designs etched into the ebonized surface showing the lighter wood underneath. This exquisite piece of craftsmanship is expertly turned, likely made by a ships cooper.   Circa 1850.

Wear consistent with age and use. The center hole of the bone medallion has some old glue, It’s possible a finial or handle was attached once.
